ABOUT
Harry Moody is a German-born abstract painter based in Los Angeles. Born in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1952, Moody studied at the Frankfurt Städel Fine Art Academy under Professors Johannes Schreiter, Thomas Bayrle, and Joseph Beuys. During his time at the Städel Academy, he was introduced to the work and philosophy of Gerhard Richter, whose influence helped shape his evolving approach to abstraction and material experimentation.
Raised around galleries through his mother, a prominent German art dealer, Moody developed an early immersion in art history and contemporary painting that continues to inform his practice today. His layered abstract works explore gesture, texture, movement, and emotional resonance through a process balancing spontaneity with what he describes as “calculated accident.”
Throughout his career, Moody has participated in major European art fairs and worked extensively within the international art world. His paintings have been exhibited in the United States and Europe, including the London Art Biennale, and are held in both public and private collections. Recent exhibitions and representation include Biba Gallery, Bivens Gallery, Galerie Bruno Massa in Paris, and exhibitions throughout Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Miami, and London. He was also selected as the Fall Artist for the City of Fontana.
