​This is an extension of the grey zones series using the square/rectangle format. Five of the canvases were given to me as finished monochrome paintings by Allen Wayne, my friend and a very established LA minimalist artist who painted in the 1970s - 90s. His works can be found today in many museums and private collections. He thought it would be fun for me to paint over a few of his monochromes with my particular style. It  was a privilege and challenge. I found that by reducing my colors to 3 basic pigments I was able to highlight and emphasize structures, space, tones, composition in a very minimalistic yet flulid manner. I hope I was able to embody and extend Allen's quest. Some of the black that is still visible are from the original monochromes.
